A New Kind of Healthcare

By Coach Sarah, HHP

January of 2020 I decided to pursue my Holistic Health Practitioner education and board certification. At that time I had my own nutrition and fitness studio known as The Original Method. I was a year and half into being a solo business owner when the pandemic hit and shut America down. When that happened I knew that I needed to let something go and it ended up being my business. I was sad and about a half a dozen other emotions but what kept me focused and steadfast was that I knew I was still meant to coach people to optimal health through nutrition, lifestyle and fitness protocols. My business was A way to do it, but the greater vision provided another opportunity called Findlay Movement. I was able to come on board full-time while finishing my education as a Holistic Health Practitioner and while studying to pass my boards. I am proud of what I have accomplished in the last year and half, and I am incredibly excited about the opportunity these credentials will provide for my community.

What is a Holistic Health Practitioner?
A Holistic Health Practitioner is a health professional who is looks at health as something you create with lifestyle, nutritional and movement focuses. Or as I like to use this analogy, if your heel is hurting you because you have a rock in your shoe, I am going to look at ways to remove the rock, not just give you an Advil for the pain. My board certification is through The American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) which means, I focus on functional medicine following an ancestral health approach and can prescribe foods, herbs, supplements, movement, heath habits or provide counseling or coaching to treat or prevent disease, disorders or disfunction in the body.

I am not able to prescribe medication as a solution.

Functional Medicine is a holistic, patient-centered, collaborative approach to healthcare. By using ancestral health strategies to align our bodies more closely with our environment, it shifts the focus away from treating illnesses as they occur to preventing them from developing in the first place. The Functional Medicine approach deals directly with the underlying cause of a health issue and treats each patient as a whole, unique individual. Holistic Health Practitioners work together with health coaches, nutritionists, and other allied health providers to support patients as they make their journey toward wellness.

Who is someone who could use a Holistic Health Practitioner?
Well just about everyone. Most of Americans are sick with some kind of chronic disease and illness. Chronic disease is climbing in the United States at an alarming rate. Six out of 10 adults have a chronic disease, and four in 10 have two or more conditions, and it's not limited to "old" people! 4 out of 10 millennials are in this boat as well. Our life expectancy has droppedfor the third year in a row—and heart disease and cancer are the leading causes of death in the nation. The global cost of treating chronic illnesses is projected to reach $47 trillion by the year 2030, unless something can be done to stop this epidemic. That’s where Functional Medicine comes in.
