Elevate Your Healthy Lifestyle: 10 Habits for a Thriving Life Beyond the Gym

At Findlay Movement, we believe that true health and fitness extends beyond gym walls. I’m excited to share ten healthy habits you can embrace outside of the gym to elevate your overall well-being. Let's dive in!

  1. Prioritize Quality Sleep: This one is huge! Establish a consistent sleep schedule and aim for 8 hours of restful sleep each night. Quality sleep rejuvenates your body, enhances mental clarity, and supports optimal physical performance.

  2. Start Your Day with Hydration: Begin each morning by drinking a glass of water. Something I’ve found helpful is to start my day off with an LMNT and flavorless collagen powered. I’m hydrating and getting an easy 20g of protein in! Staying hydrated throughout the day boosts metabolism, aids digestion, and supports overall health.

  3. Eat Mindfully: Slow down and savor each bite during meals. Eliminate all screens and try chewing your food 30x before swallowing to increase intentionality while eating. Pay attention to your body's hunger and fullness cues, and choose nutrient-dense, whole foods that nourish your body and provide sustained energy.

  4. Practice Portion Control: Be mindful of portion sizes and avoid overeating. Listen to your body's signals and stop eating when you feel comfortably satisfied.

  5. Incorporate Movement into Daily Life: Seek opportunities for physical activity outside of the gym. Take the stairs, walk or bike to nearby destinations, or engage in activities that align with your interests, such as dancing, hiking, or playing sports.

  6. Manage Stress: Implement stress-management techniques such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, or journaling. Find activities that help you unwind and promote relaxation.

  7. Cultivate Healthy Relationships: Surround yourself with positive, supportive individuals who uplift and inspire you. Nurture meaningful connections with friends and family, as strong relationships contribute to overall well-being.

Start by picking one of these habits to implement. If your sleep schedule isn’t dialed in (same wake and bedtime, as well as 8 hours of sleep), I strongly recommend starting there. I’ve done it for myself and I feel significantly better. My anxiety has decreased and my energy and productivity has increased!
